What I Learned From a Dove Wrapper

I have to confess that I am a chocoholic. A self-proclaimed chocolate candy connoisseur. One of my favorites is Dove Candy. Now all of the Dove chocolates are great, but it is something about the little mini ones that I just can’t resist.

dove candyBesides how delicious the candy is, just inside the wrapper are these little cute phrases that I just have to read. Whoever comes up with these things are a genius and they have truly found their calling.

Today as I eagerly unwrapped my peanut butter milk chocolate goodness I was met by the most inspiring set of words strung together to make me stop everything and write this post.

The first one I opened said, “Get dressed up with no place to go.”dove candy 4

This phrase touched me because it made me realize how much I dress up in order to impress other people. You may not be in that category, but how about we do those little extra special touches we use when we are on our way out the door just for ourselves. We should look good for ourselves first and then allow the rest of the world to take notice.

And why should we do this?

dove candy 5“Because you can” said the second wrapper. Almost as if the person that gave me this sugary pick me up knew that I would ask that very question. We all should do things that make us happy. Not for any particular reason, but just because.

Because we are worth it. Because we deserve it. Because we are always looking out for everyone else. Because we shouldn’t have to be at the bottom of our own to-do list in order to help others.

Right at this moment like myself, you are thinking about the things that need to get done. There is laundry piling up. Dinner needs to be made. Homework for yourself and the kids. Choir rehearsal. Sunday school. Bible study. The list goes on and on and on.

We have things to do and the only way they are going to get done is if we have a plan and stick with it. Instead of being so regimented how about we improvise.dove candy 2

Let’s relax and not take things so seriously. We can substitute beef for that chicken recipe. We can do the homework after we go for that bike ride. There is clean underwear in the drawer, so laundry can wait for a couple more days.

Take some time to be in the moment, enjoy yourself, and just be. There is always something else to do, but if you are not at your optimal self it won’t get done.

This may seem a little unorthodox to some. It may even be scary to put yourself first, just because or to improvise your daily routine. But how about we choose the less ordinary and be extraordinary?
